A BIG thanks to all the participants, volunteers and spectators who braved the "not-as-cold-as-forecasted" temperatures this morning. The crowd grows every year and this may have been the largest group of runners (125) ever.

As Shout-Out to Buckeye Running Company for sponsoring again and handing out gift cards to all the runners. And the Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Co. for bringing the beer to soothe our throats -- and keeping the cops on edge.

Thanks to all who also donated extra to the Cincinnati Soap Box Derby.

We plan to work with Greg McCormick of Running Time to come up with a better timing solution for next year. Our system worked good for 25-30 participants, OK with 60 but now that we've clearly broken the century mark, we need to upgrade.

Thanks to all again! See you next year.

Running and Bike Race

Race Day Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday

Race Date: November 22, 2015
Check in at top of hill.

The Straight Street Hill Climb is billed as ‘one of the most grueling sub-mile runs on the planet’ by event organizers. “It’s two minutes of self-inflicted torture,” claims event coordinator, Doug Newberry. This year’s hill climb will be the 39th anniversary of the event that started in 1976 by the Clifton Track Club. It has been run almost annually ever since. The bike race was added in 2011, along with the option to both run and bike up the hill in consecutive assaults.

The format will be similar to previous years. Running race will start at 9 a.m. with the Bike race afterwards. The 1.08-mile Biathlon returns this year and is open to anyone who entered either the run or the bike event. No extra fee for this masochistic attempt.

Running race will begin at 9 a.m.. Bike races will begin about 9:30 a.m.. Depending on the number of riders, cyclists may be started in multiple heats.

2014 Climb Results

Thank you to all who came out to brave the warmth today. The Cincinnati Soap Box Derby would like to thank the Buckeye Running Co. and the Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Co. for their sponsorships of this annual event.

Special thanks to our volunteers today: Kevin Armstrong, Mike Hoffman, Cassandra Clement and Linda Ziegler.

Results are below. I don't have the finishing times for the bike and biathlon races. (I think Linda may still have them) but will update when I can.

Registration is open, thanks to new sponsor

Registration is open for the 2014 Straight Street Hill Climb, scheduled for Sunday morning, Nov 23 at 9 a.m.  Race Day registration opens at 8 a.m. that morning.

The race almost didn't happen this year because of the Cincinnati Police Special Events Units' exorbitant fees but the Buckeye Running Company came through to help offset the costs. Thank you Steve and Brett! Of course, Wiedemann Beer will return as our hydration sponsor. Thanks George!

The format will be similar to previous years. Running race will start at 9 a.m. with the Bike race afterwards. The 1.08-mile Biathlon returns this year and is open to anyone who entered either the run or the bike event. No extra fee for this masochistic attempt.

Biathlon format will flip from last year. Last year, competitors started by running up then down the hill and finished by pedaling up to the top. THIS year, we will start with the bikes, then run down and back up on foot -- or hands and knees, if required.

Purchasing .036 stickers and pre-ordering shirts can also be done on the website in addition to registration. We've already ordered the shirts so when we're out of your size, we're out. Sorry. Order NOW to guarantee yours will be waiting.  I'm sending the sizes and quantities to the printer this afternoon.

2014 Hill Climb date has been set

Every weekend, multiple five- and ten-kilometer races take place in Cincinnati for runners and walkers. Marathons, duathlons and triathlons – formerly events reserved for only the most elite competitors – now attract thousands of participants. Judging by the number of cars sporting “26.2” or “13.1” oval bumper stickers, it appears that almost everyone is running marathons. What can the elite athlete do to truly distinguish themselves and prove their mettle in this plethora of “me too” sporting events?

On Sunday, Nov 23, a small group of runners and cyclists will gather at the base of Straight Street in Clifton Heights for the Straight Street Hill Climb. Some will be hoping to break the elusive two-minute record. Others will be just happy to finish the 0.36-mile distance. You read that correctly, 0.36, a little more than 1/3 of a mile. Sound easy?

The Straight Street Hill Climb is billed as ‘one of the most grueling sub-mile runs on the planet’ by event organizers. “It’s two minutes of self-inflicted torture,” claims event coordinator, Doug Newberry. This year’s hill climb will be the 38th anniversary of the the event that started in 1976 by the Clifton Track Club. It has been run almost annually ever since. The bike race was added in 2011, along with the option to both run and bike up the hill in consecutive assaults.

Running race will begin at 9 a.m.. Bike races will begin about 9:30 a.m.. Depending on the number of riders, cyclists may be started in multiple heats.
